iPhone OS 4.0 To Feature Expose Style Multitasking?

According to the guys over at Apple Insider, the iPhone OS 4.0 will finally feature one thing that many iPhone users have wanted for some time, multitasking.

At the moment, you can only use one application at a time in the current iPhone OS, if you want to use another application you have to quit the one you are using and start the new application.

Apple Insider are reporting that the iPhone OS 4.0 will have a multitasking feature that will use a UI which is similar to Apple’s desktop Expose feature, and if you hit the home button twice, it will bring up an Expose like interface that will show a series of icons that represent the current applications that are running.

This will allow users to quickly switch between running application, and apparently when you select one of the applications, the iPhone OS will zoom out of the Expose like interface and launch the application you have selected.

It will be interesting to see if Apple finally adds multitasking to the iPhone OS, and how it will actually work in practice, it is definitely one feature that I would like to see on the iPhone and the iPad.

Steampunk Gun Has More Tools Than Your Swiss Army Knife

The steampunk gun is made from a combination of brass and copper, there is also some steel in there and a bit of wood and leather thrown in. It has a built in fork, spoon, lighter, USB drive, a watch, a torch, a screwdriver, a pipe, a saw, nail clipper and even a toothbrush.

It looks like this is the only one, and Ivan doesn’t have any plans to sell it. Head on over to Mental Design for mode details on this awesome steampunk gun.

Pad Dock Turns Your iPhone Into An iPad

If you don’t fancy shelling out your hard earned cash for one of Apple’s new iPads, and already own an iPhone or an iPod Touch, then why not get one of these Pad Dock’s which will convert your iPhone into an iPad.

You can dock your iPhone or iPod Touch with the Pad Dock and it will automatically magnify the screen, turning it into an iPad, the best part is it costs a lot less than an iPad.

Using a touch-screen magnifier, your iPhone screen is enlarged to the exact dimensions of an iPad. Most of the features that the iPad boasts about are on the iPhone anyway, so it only makes good sense to simply enlarge it. And, unlike the iPad, you can actually answer and make calls. Technology, eh?

If you want one, the Pad Dock is available for £89.99 about $135 from IWOOT.

Netflix streaming, ABC, and 1,348 more iPad approved apps revealed

Look, we're not sure what appadvice is using to back its claims, but it's been pumping out supposed iPad app leaks for a few weeks now with screenshots and videos that tell a convincing story. Now they've linked us to a host of new iPad apps with Netflix and ABC player being two of the most notable. The free Neflix app is said to be launching along side Apple's slate on April 3rd letting Netflix subscribers browse and manage their queues. More importantly, it will also allow subscribers to stream Netflix's online collection of videos. Of course, if this is true then we expect to see a Netflix app land for the iPhone and iPod touch as well in adherence to Reed Hastings' previous comments.

There's also a free ABC app tipped for April 3rd giving iPad owners WiFi access to full episodes of shows like Lost and Grey's Anatomy. And with CBS seemingly getting into the HTML5 game we suspect that the demand for Hulu in the US will dampen if all this comes to fruition -- especially if Hulu adopts a subscription model. Not enough? Then check out the 1,350 (and counting) approved iPad apps in the source link below or preview 700 of them in a video after the break where you'll also catch a few more Netflix and ABC screenies. We'll have to wait until Saturday to see how many of these actually appear in the iTunes App Store.

Update: Looks like these apps are coming straight from Apple's app database since AppShopper is also showing Netflix and ABC Player iPad apps. Don't believe it? Then why not grab some screenshots of your own direct from Apple's servers. This is legit folks.

iCade iPad Arcade Cabinet Concept

Do you think your iPad would make a great gaming device? Apparently the folks over at ThinkGeek think so too, as they’ve come up with the iCade concept accessory. It’s actually an arcade cabinet for your iPad, allowing you to slide in your iPad, docking it on the iCade, giving it traditional arcade controllers, and making the whole setup resemble the arcade machines from your younger days. Once docked, launch the dedicated iCade app that will offer your classic games, and you’re good to go! Obviously you’re going to have long gaming sessions on this setup, since you’re reminiscing, and that’s why the docking station also allows you to charge your iPad at the same time, ensuring that you’ll never have to take a break from your gaming sessions. Would you buy this is it were turned into an actual product?

Nokia E72 review

The Nokia E71 certainly hit the mark for its target business audience, so it's little surprise that its E72 successor reprises much of what was good about that QWERTY keyboard-packing Symbian S60 smartphone, while updating it with extra power and performance.

The E72 features a sleek business-like design, sporting a BlackBerry-style full QWERTY keyboard across its wide body. Some eye-catching chrome trim complements the classically understated bodywork that's aimed squarely at serious business users.

Smartphone technology may have moved on rapidly since the E71 first wowed us as a business tool, but it seems there's still strong demand for devices like the E72.

Twitter homepage gets a redesign

The Twitter homepage has been spruced-up, or had "re-design," if you're that way inclined. Not that you'd probably noticed. Most hardened tweeps haven't seen the Twitter homepage since they signed up.

But that was the problem in Twitter's eyes. They seemed to feel the old homepage, which focused on trending topics that tended to be Twitter memes or random hashtags, gave off an esoteric message and wasn't conducive to tempting in new users.

The new design has a "top tweets" bar which roles through tweets, and there is less emphasis on trending topics, which subtly scroll under the main banner, and a "whose here" section, which Twitter describes as a "random sample of suggested profiles," which is a bit of an paradox.

Twitter said "We realise Twitter is not just for status updates anymore. It's a network where information is exchanged and consumed at a rapid clip every second of the day.

"But it hasn't been easy to make that value transparent or obvious for curious folks coming to Twitter for the first time."

We're not exactly sure when the new homepage will be going live -- it was live this morning, but now it's not.
