iPhone OS 4.0 To Feature Expose Style Multitasking?

According to the guys over at Apple Insider, the iPhone OS 4.0 will finally feature one thing that many iPhone users have wanted for some time, multitasking.

At the moment, you can only use one application at a time in the current iPhone OS, if you want to use another application you have to quit the one you are using and start the new application.

Apple Insider are reporting that the iPhone OS 4.0 will have a multitasking feature that will use a UI which is similar to AppleĆ¢€™s desktop Expose feature, and if you hit the home button twice, it will bring up an Expose like interface that will show a series of icons that represent the current applications that are running.

This will allow users to quickly switch between running application, and apparently when you select one of the applications, the iPhone OS will zoom out of the Expose like interface and launch the application you have selected.

It will be interesting to see if Apple finally adds multitasking to the iPhone OS, and how it will actually work in practice, it is definitely one feature that I would like to see on the iPhone and the iPad.
